TWO WORLD TAKE
Am a firm believer a key trait of quality design is the ability to conflate the timeless with a unique spin. You see, as humans we’re comforted by the familiar while simultaneously craving novelty. It’s why too much normalcy inevitability bores, while too much experimentation off-puts; even frightens. As such, the balance between both is crucial, especially within the design world. Suppose it’s for this reason am drawn to those that strike the balance well and of those a director named Julie Taymor. Like most people who spearhead experimentation and influence a wider ripple than they realize, her ability to interweave the anachronistic is incredible/amazed she hasn’t done more work
Famous for her striking visuals within Broadway’s The Lion King, I’ve become exceptionally fond of her talent to weave old/new in several Shakespeare adaptations. You can’t get any more timeless than his stories that center on the human condition while enveloping them with flowerly and visual language. That said, who wouldn’t be compelled to reflect these with a fresh twist?
