Although rarely revered for their quality, fast food brands are the best indicator of current and future design trends. Personally, while I hate their food, Burger King (since its recent big/beautiful rebrand) has become one of my favorites to follow. However, I also keep a special eye on Taco Bell, since they're always eager to keep themselves visually fresh.

So the next time you're in the drive-thru/lobby, pay close attention to the design of its menu and associated advertisements. Could give you a glimpse into the future.
